How do I become a HCMG?
Before you can become a member of the Hall County Master Gardeners, you must first become a Master Gardener. To do this, you must be accepted into the intern training program, which consists of fifty hours of class instruction.
Classes begin in early January each year, and are typically held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Classes conclude by the end of March. Participants must successfully complete a three exams.
Interns must then complete fifty hours of volunteer service within 12 months of completing class. This includes at least 25 hours of service at the County Extension office. The balance of the hours are volunteer activities of the HCMG.
Upon successful completion of the class and accumulation of the fifty hours of volunteer service, participants are then certified as Master Gardeners, and become members of the Hall County Master Gardeners organization. The $10.00 annual HCMG member's fee is waived for new members.
The fee for the class is $125.00. A very comprehensive Master Gardener training manual is provided to participants. The fee also covers the first year's membership in the Georgia Master Gardener Association.
