Weekly HCMG Newsletter for July 21 Last Week’s Monthly Meeting: Our monthly meeting at Elachee Nature Center was well-attended, with enthusiastic support for the new 2009 HCMG calendar. Cynthia Taylor, natural resource manager at Elachee, presented great information regarding invasive plants. The membership agreed to establish a $4,000 grant pool for the 2008-2009 school year for special request Junior Master Gardener projects. 2009 HCMG Calendar: Orders for the new calendar can be registered at the Extension Office, or from Melanie Clark. The calendar will also be on sale at the Fall Garden Expo and the Fall Gardening Symposium. Calendars sell for $10.00 each. What a DEAL! Wilshire Park workday: Wednesday July 23rd, 9:00 a.m. I know it is really hot but the weeds don’t seem to mind! We will be doing some weeding and cutting Miss Huff off the walkways. We will be done in less than 2 hours if we get a good group in. Please bring your trowels, shovels and clippers and bug spray. Wilshire Park is just off Pearl Nix and behind Gainesville H.S. with plenty of parking and rest rooms. For directions please call Mary Wenger (770)287-0734. HABITAT LANDSCAPING: Saturday, August 2 - 8 AM Start. Master Gardeners will landscape two Habitat houses located almost back to back on Black and Cooley. Work will include installing the plants in prepared ground, spreading pine straw and grass seed and straw. Our thanks to Tricia Terrell for the design and Ron Brechter for the ground preparation. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a folding chair. Wilshire Park is just off Pearl Nix Parkway and behind Gainesville H.S. Fall Garden Expo:Volunteers Needed Additional volunteers are needed for Friday, September 12, primarily in the afternoon, and Saturday, primarily at load-out and clean-up times.
