Weekly HCMG Newsletter for February 18

February Monthly Meeting:
Our HCMG February Monthly Meeting will be held this
Tuesday, February 19, at Chicopee Woods Ag Center,
beginning at 6:30 p.m. Well-known world-traveler and
gourmet Tricia Terrell will be our guest speaker, with an
illustrated talk on the Gardens of Japan.
Agenda topics include updates on our Spring Garden Expo,
the Tissue Culture Workshop, and the Senior Center
Landscape Project. Flyers for the Spring Expo will be
available for your distribution. We’ll also have volunteer
sign-up sheets for the Expo.
Mr. Al Rothe of GMGA will attend to present a grant check
for the Hall Board of Education landscape project.
Members whose last names begin with the letters from “M” to
“S” are asked to bring dessert or veggie trays for our
social time.

Seeds for Afghanistan Project:
For those who are interested in an easy but worthwhile
project, please consider donating to the Seeds for
Afghanistan initiative.
Seeds for Afghanistan needs the following:
- All types of ordinary vegetable, herbs, flowers seeds
that grow in Zone 4 of the
North American continent. Fresh seeds only, please, no
more than one year old.
-Ordinary types are best, especially eggplant, tomatoes and
leafy greens -- exotics are not desirable.
-While vegetable seeds are important, so are flowers, which
can be sold at market to help sustain a widow and her
family and provide the beauty so loved by the Afghan
people. Particularly flowers that last so they can be
taken to market (straw flowers, sunflowers ... but no
poppies, please.)

The seeds are needed by February 28, so please bring to the
Feb. 19 monthly meeting, or call Elaine Gerke at
770-503-6642 or email at jolliff-gerke@mindspring.com for
pick up.
