Congratulations to Hall County Master GardenerTravis Oliver!! He received his certificate and gold star for completion of the requirements to become an Advanced Master Gardener for his knowledge in Urban Forestry and Ecology.

Seminars at Jaemor Farms
Saturday, February 28th from 12.30 - 3.00pm with a light lunch provided. The topic will be Fruit trees, their varieties, pruning and general care. Cost is $12
Saturday, March 21st from 9 am - 12.00 noon with a cost of $12 for refreshments. Kellie Bowen of Full Bloom Nursery will be talking about Flowers and Shrubs.
Saturday, April 18th from 12.30 - 3.00 will be a seminar on Vegetable growing.

JMG Fundraiser—Flowerbulbs for Sale
*Order form and money due at March 17 HCMG meeting (No tax). Mindy Wade will collect money and orders.
*More brochures available at Extension Office and at Hall County Board of Ed office
*HCMG earns 50% profit—all to benefit our JMG programs.
*Each JMG will be selling also, with the profits from each group being kept by the group selling.
*The company conducting the sale gets its bulbs from Touch of Nature, the company that gave us over $3,800 valued bulbs in the fall.
*We will receive the shipment of bulbs during the first week of April. You will receive each of your orders packaged in bags for delivery.
All checks from HCMG sales should be made to Hall County Master Gardeners.

Master Gardener Diane Kaczorowski will be doing a presentation at the Library Branch on Spout Springs Road on “Vegetable and Herb Gardening in Raised Beds”, February 24, 6 pm.
On March 5th at 6pm, Greg Kaczorowski, (Diane’s husband), will do a presentation on "From Vines to Wines". It is an introduction to home winemaking.

Growers Outlet is opening for 2009, and we’re going shopping for plants, Wednesday, February 25. FIELD TRIP TO MASSEY LANE GARDENS
We’re heading south to Massey Lane Gardens, headquarters of the American Camellia Society in Fort Valley! Plan to tour these beautiful old gardens with one of the best collections of camellias in the country in bloom, see how camellias are propagated, shop in Massey’s own nursery and gift shop, and picnic in the gardens.

Depart the Farmers Market at 8:00 a.m.
Return 5:30 p.m.
Bring your own picnic lunch. Coolers will be brought with drinks.
Cost: $5 admission fee. Gas and beverage costs are shared equally among all passengers (drivers ride “free”) and are payable at pullout.

Winter, 2010, GMGA Conference:
The HCMG membership has agreed to host the January, 2010, Winter GMGA Conference in Gainesville. Because of this, we will not hold the 2009 Fall Gardening Symposium, but put our efforts towards the Conference.

Elachee Nature Center is in need of a Master Gardener who would be able to lead a short, non-demanding hike in Chicopee Woods as part of the Center's "First Saturday Hikes". New Web Site for Georgia Gold Medal Plants
The Georgia Plant Selections Committee, now in its 16th year, has recently announced its slate of 2009 Georgia Gold Medal Winners. Administration of the program has been shifted from Cooperative Extension to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, and a new web page for the program has been created. To obtain information on the 2009 winners as well as a printable color fact sheet, see www.georgiagoldmedalplants.org Limited quantities of the 2009 fact sheets also can be obtained from the State Botanical Garden by contacting Shirley Berry at shberry@uga.edu
